Other Camping and Hiking Areas

Camping is available on Sunfair Dry Lake, off Sunfair Road, on the north side of Hwy 62, between Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms. Take Hwy 62 from Joshua Tree, east towards Twentynine Palms. Turn left on Sunfair, towards the Hi-Desert Airport. Turn right on Broadway (or any one of those little roads) and continue out onto the dry lake. This is all BLM land, and good hiking can be had in the low hills to the east of the dry lake.

The dry lake is also home to the Hi-Desert Aero Barons, a Radio Control airplane flying club. Stop by and watch them as they put their beautiful planes through their paces!

Another place that is good for hiking, is Pipes Canyon. Take Hwy 247 north and turn left on Pipes Canyon Road. Take the road all the way up to the parking area. Park and continue up the trail (wash) on foot. This is for experienced hikers with topo maps only!!
