This 300-ton transformer was built in Sweden and was being transported to
the Los Angeles area by Almas International, a world wide super heavy
hauling company based in Chino California. The move was going just fine
until this massive load was pitted against an 8% grade known as Pipes
Canyon.
Almas had engineered plenty of power and maneuverability into this monster
rig but fresh asphalt and desert heat left the pulling motor with no
traction. The extra weight on the transmission of the pushing truck proved
to be too much and nearly 700,000 pounds of man and machine were left
stranded at the bottom of a dry and dusty wash. |

Knowing it would take a giant to help a giant the company quickly summoned
the areas biggest and most resourceful equipment and personnel, LeFevre's
Towing. Within the hour Don LeFevre and Company had stationed their best
men and equipment at the ready and were paying out 150 feet of
high-strength cable.
|

As wide-eyed spectators watched in amazement the cable was hooked to the
259 foot long transporter with precision and confidence. Soon the quiet
desert air came alive with the sound of stretching cable and winching
motors all under the watchful eye of LeFevre's team of trained experts. |
Slowly the winches recalled the cable with the giant load in tow. At the end of the cable all brakes were set and
the mighty tow truck was repositioned at the top of the grade. Once again
all 14 wheels were locked and two 60 ton winches began to labor. As the
mechanical giant was gently coaxed to the top of the hill Almas
International knew they had called the right people for help.

LeFevre's Towing was called to stand shoulder to shoulder with one of the
worlds top super heavy haulers and passed the test with flying colors. How
did they accomplish this amazing feat? Was it the power and ready
condition of his big trucks? Was it their on-going investment in tools and
equipment? Was it his well trained staff of experts? Yes, it was all of
these factors plus their "Can Do" attitude. At LeFevre's Towing
every challenge from the industries biggest problems to the simplest tire
change gets top quality expert service. |
